One of the world’s largest gatherings of senior business leaders and policymakers in the oil and gas industry is set to take place in London next week.

Gastech, which will be held at ExCeL London, from 8-11 October, will see an elite gathering of global energy leaders in the sector who are expected to wrestle with tough issues such as security of supply and the effect of emerging markets could have on the future supply to the established net importers of pipeline gas and LNG. In a period when global economies and banking systems are struggling to come to terms with the recession, the key challenge of raising finance for mega oil and gas projects will also be widely discussed.

The IEA recently estimated the cumulative global investment required by the power sector to be in the region of US$16 trillion by 2035. Hot on the agenda, as the demand for gas continues to rise in Asia, are the difficulties for producers in entering new and emerging markets with governments on fuel mix policies, power tariffs, product sharing agreements, fiscal regimes, permit and licensing and domestic gas market regulation.

The global debate over the race to fuel Asia is also explored with leading speakers from the USA Department of Energy, Angola LNG, Gazprom, Russian Energy Minister and the Nigeria Government, who will be exploring how LNG can contribute to solving the issue over increasing demand in the Asia Pacific, with topics including regional indexing, trading models and US LNG export.

A host of high profile delegates will attend Gastech 2012, including UK Energy Minister Ed Davey, Hon Alexander Novak – Minister of Energy in Russia, Norway’s Secretary of State in the Ministry of Petroleum & Energy Per Rune Henriksen, and Minister of Petroleum from Nigeria Hon Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Mr Novak said: “I look forward to welcoming delegates and guests to the Gastech Conference and Exhibition in London. I believe that Gastech is an ideal opportunity and platform to assist international partners to co-operate more effectively, allowing the launch of new joint projects within the energy sector.

“This opportunity to come together will also help create favourable conditions for greater innovation and for the development of energy-saving technologies, in a safe environment in Europe and internationally. To every participant at Gastech, I wish great success in the energy sector.”

Gastech consists of an engaging, must attend conference exploring gas fundamentals. More than 120 energy leaders and visionaries will speak at the conference, sharing future projections and policy as we move into the golden age of gas.

Meanwhile, the Gastech exhibition will include over 400 international exhibitors. In addition 50 top recruiting companies and organisations will attend and exhibit at the ignite! Energy Recruitment Show as Gastech strives to work with the industry to respond to the global skill shortage across the oil and gas sector.
