Sherwin-Williams, a global coatings supplier to the oil and gas market, has launched its next generation of FIRETEX® passive fire protection (PFP) and cryogenic spillage protection (CSP) technologies.

The new M90/02, M93/02 and M89/02 are extensions of the existing FIRETEX range of time-tested, high performance intumescent and insulation coatings. The series is being introduced as Sherwin-Williams looks to highlight the role that its world class products can play in offering proven protection against cryogenic spillage and hydrocarbon fire.

Delivering improved char strength and greatly reduced dry film thickness, M90/02 covers an industry-leading range of steel sections and provides a competitive, proven solution for protection against both hydrocarbon pool and jet fires. As part of the series, the M89/02 thermal insulator protects against both sub zero and elevated temperatures, allowing the epoxy fire proofing to be applied on storage tanks and vessels with contents higher than 80°C. Used together, the duplex system offers protection against both cryogenic spillage and hydrocarbon fire, as well as corrosion.

Gordon Bell, general manager protective & marine EMEA at Sherwin-Williams, comments: "With 14 years water immersion testing and NORSOK M-501, Revision 5 compliance, the FIRETEX M90 series has a strong track record and offers passive fire protection for up to four hours on structural steel, decks and bulkheads. Now that Leighs Paints is a member of the Sherwin-Williams family, we are looking to enhance our existing product portfolio with the introduction of a next generation series that offers a number of benefits to customers while retaining the hydrocarbon fire protection properties that have made FIRETEX a market leader.

“In response to demand, we have extended the operational range of our FIRETEX products into cryogenic spillage protection. The combined system, where M89/02 is used in combination with M90/02 or M93/02, is already being used by a number of our customers to successfully protect assets against both fire and cryogenic spillage.”

Sherwin-Williams, the oil and gas industry’s global asset protection partner, will be launching FIRETEX M90/02, M89/02 and M93/02 at Gastech 2012 (stand B108), as part of its focus on protecting life and assets, globally. Offering solutions to meet the needs of upstream, midstream and downstream segments, Sherwin-Williams is committed to delivering quality, value, service and logistical support unmatched by other coatings companies in the market.
